Perched on the West coast of Clare overlooking the Atlantic Ocean sits the seaside resort of Kilkee. With a population of only 1300, this busy little holiday town has played host to tourists for the past 200 years.
The town is world-renowned for its soft sandy beach, stunning scenery, rich assortment of outdoor pursuits and first class nightlife. Kilkee is just 45 minutes drive from Shannon International Airport and an hour drive from the regional cities of Limerick and Galway
Kilkee boasts a beautiful golden sandy beach stretching over one and a half miles which, with its Blue Flag status, makes it the safest beach on the West Coast of Ireland. There are some breathtaking walks both to the north of the beach where one can explore George's Head (so called as it is said to resemble a former King of England), and to the south where one can walk for sixteen miles along the cliffs and explore Loop Head.
As one would expect from a coastal town, watersports play a huge part in daily life in Kilkee. Swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, wind surfing and fishing are all popular pastimes. Equipment for these activities is available for hire in the town with the Kilkee Diving club being extremely active.
Other Activities include; tennis, squash, golf (18-hole championship golf course), pitch and putt, children's amusements, cycling, walking as well as dolphin watching.
Restaurants offer fine foods, with local seafood a speciality, whilst the pubs offer music during the summer months.
The town boasts an excellent library, a visitor center, two banks, a post office and small range of shops and deli's.
